Course Description:
This is a survey style course that addresses current trends and events in k-12 education. Participants will gain practical experience in classroom management, lesson design and presentation skills using the latest in techniques and technology.
Primary Learning Outcomes:
Participants will:
• Apply concepts learned during the week to create classroom material that benefits teacher and student.
• Use state academic standards to guide decisions made about curriculum and document them in all submitted work.
• Demonstrate competency in writing and presentation software for communicating; and multimedia and web-tools for engaging learners.
Course Materials:
Upon enrollment the participant will receive the following: A registration bag, all handouts relevant to the week's presentations, FAQ's sheet
Course Requirements:
• A minimum of 45 hours devoted to Professional growth activity. 40 hours of planned class / computer lab time and 5 hours devoted to creating the final project.
Submission of final project in digital format. This project is to help the participant in the classroom. Modify an existing document or plan using concepts learned in the 5 day course.

Day 1
• Review of the course syllabus
• Review all materials in registration bag
• Provide examples of final projects

Assignments:
• Participation in Ice breakers
• Construct list of active participation devices.
Day 2
• Tour of classrooms in Merced and Stanislaus County
Assignments:
• Participate in open forum with recognized high performing teachers in each respective county.
• Tour evaluation and reflection
Day3
Computer lab - Open Source and Campus Safety Forum
Assignments:
Find 10 educational / open source websites to improve classroom curriculum / instruction
Research Gang influence on specific campus' and current campus safety mprocedures in place at each school site.
Day 4
Guest Speaker: Kristine Colbert, West Ed.
Assignment: Complete Ms. Colbert's evaluation and compose reflection paper on inclusion techniques for autism and other special needs.
Day 5
Guest Speaker: Jackie Ryle, Ph.D. - Conflict Resolution
Participants presenting Final Projects
Assignments:
Participate in Ms. Ryle's activities
Complete evaluation
Submit final projects
Grades are Credit/No Credit (CR or NC). Credit is equivalent to a B grade or above. Letter grades are not issued.
100pt - 80pt = Credit
79 and below = No Credit
Participants are evaluated based on successful completion and submission of:
1. Time log recording a minimum of 15 hours per unit of credit- 50pt
2. Completion of daily assignments and participation in all scheduled events.
Completion of these items will result in a passing grade for the participant.
