Course Description:
This course provides educators of all grade levels and teaching experiences, a self guided experience exploring tricks and tips in Microsoft Word. Educators will benefit by getting the most from Microsoft Office applications.

Primary Learning Outcomes:
Participants will:
• Demonstrate the use of Microsoft Word by providing 1 document per tutorial culminating in a final project.
• Augment classroom presentations using Word and other dynamic computer based applications.
• Demonstrate understanding of Microsoft Word by foot noting tips throughout the final project.

Course Materials:
Upon enrollment the participant will receive the following via email: 12 Microsoft Word tutorials, past participant’s exemplary projects, guidelines for the final class project.

Course Requirements:
The unit components include the following:
• A scholastic/academic time log must be submitted at completion of the course.
• Time specific log documenting research, activity and curriculum developement Evidence of 45 – 80 hours must be recorded to meet course requirement.
• Educators will develop a standards based unit plan for the classroom. The project is submitted electronically or on a CD for course grade/credit on or before the completion date.
• Technology for the Teacher: Develop inquiry based curriculum involving technology available at your school site. You will collaborate with the facilitator to develop 3+ course objectives. Projects will be evaluated on those objectives.

Course Requirements Continued:

• Technology for the Learner (K – 12): All lessons that are student centered and reflect the shift from passive learning to students making choices and being dynamically involved in the classroom. Examples include: WebQuest, Interactive Board, Podcasts, or using software your publisher provides with your class set of texts.
• MS Word mastery will be evaluated by a display of documents in your project. There must be evidence of all 12 tutorial subjects throughout the documents.

Schedule of Topics and Assignments:

Class Schedule for first correspondence:
• Review of the course syllabus
• Review all materials sent to the participants and formulate individual project guidelines for each participant.
• Provide examples of the academic log to be maintained by the participant and submitted upon course completion.

Assignments for first correspondence:
• Identify specific CA State Content Standards that are being addressed.
• Participant will provide a tentative outline of final project.

Class Schedule for second correspondence:
• Two week participant check up.
• Participants are to bring any questions that may have come up during their work thus far.
• Present all work completed up to that point for review.
Assignments for second correspondence:
• Identify specific CA State Content Standards that are being addressed.
• Update outline and identify specific technologies present in the project.

ALL OTHER MEETINGS ARE OPTIONAL, ONLY IF REQUESTED BY PARTICIPANT. Any Email message or phone call will be returned in a timely manner.

Policy on Plagiarism
All people participating in the educational process at Fresno Pacific University are expected to pursue honesty and integrity in all aspects of their academic work. Academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, will be handled according to the procedures set forth on page 8 of the Fresno Pacific University Catalogue.

Final Project: Ready for use in the classroom.
Participant will submit a completed unit plan and an academic time log.

Evaluation Criteria for Credit/Grading Criteria:

Grades are Credit/No Credit (CR or NC). Credit is equivalent to a B grade or above. Letter grades are not issued.
Participants are evaluated based on successful completion and submission of:

1. Time log recording a minimum of 45 hours - 10%
2. A unit plan (Word documents included) that adheres to objectives set at the beginning of the course. - 30%
3. A student - centered activity embedded in the unit plan. - 30%
4. Response to each of the 12 MS Word tutorials- 10%
5. Proper documentation and citation in all work for this course - 10%
6. Participation in all agreed upon correspondence. - 10%
Completion of these items will result in a passing grade for the participant.

Policy Statement
These courses are post-baccalaureate, professional development units that are not part of a degree program, but are designed in collaboration with school districts and other educational organizations to meet specific staff development needs. Students should seek approval of appropriate district or college officials before enrolling in these courses to satisfy any degree, state credential, or local school district requirements.

We are back to the process of planning for 2009-2010…

June 2010 is starting to take shape…we plan on offerings in Modesto-Merced-Manteca and the Sierra Foothills…

We will be returning to Southern Oregon pluswe are working on a seminar in Southwestern Montana – middle of July, 2010…a real vacation possibility!!!
